beleive it or not, i prefer the simple raw command line. the OS runs way faster because you don't have all of that GUI code and window objects to load

++idem but personally, I use several web interfaces for pentesting, Firefox will be nice, so it can be useful to have a light desktop window like XFCE Wink

Edit: I saw the KDE WM on http://forum.matriux.com/index.php?topic=430.0, I like it, if it do not take too place, why not KDE Wink

First of all, I want to greet everyone.

I also like the command line interface. However, still, sometimes it's required to use some GUI, so I think, that it's great to include all available, as it'll be possible to change interface from time to time, when one becomes boring.  :Smiley

Yeah, it's a little bit old... but anyway.  Cheesy

As I have said on IRC already, I'd like to see the ion3 window manager. Though, gnome and kde can be useful.

I say add just one, whichever that may be, as people can just apt-get (k)ubuntu-desktop or ion3.

Ion3 is really minimalistic, but as far as I know, wireless only works once you run "gnome-session".

Though, ion3 is worth taking a look at.

Minimalism is key, in my opinion, for fast boot times and a responsive feel.

That said, Gnome can look really sharp. Take a look at how the Samurai team makes use of Gnome for their Live CD.

As 'J Wolfgang Goerlich' says, "minimalism is key".
I would say no GUI but since we need one, Gnome is the most suitable because it's very fast and "clean".

I personally prefer both Gnome and Openbox, but if we want to make it as light as possible => Openbox

I'll use either Gnome because it's stable, or KDE 4.5 (the more stable 4.x)

I would plan to make this my main OS.

KDE, Gnome, Unity .. In my opinion there great .... for non power users.

Again my opinion I would love to see a nice e17 (Enlightment-svn17) or LXDE WM, because they take very little resources unlike Gnome and KDE. Enlightenment can run on embedded devices and supports OpenGL out of the box .. forget about OpenGL .. anyway you don't need 1 gig of ram to run the thing either. Again My opinion so I don't want to get into a flame war about which WM is better.

I think I security distro should be light weight and fast and if you have a high powered machine then the distro will decide to take advantage of it ie.. OpenCL or CUDA.

just my 2cents.
